Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular rehabilitation focuses on the treatment of inner ear and other disorders which result in complaints of vertigo, dizziness and decreased balance. Vestibular certification means a obtaining a “certification of achievement” which is given after completing an intense six day competency based course and passing written, video and practical examinations.

Balance Solutions therapists practice vestibular rehabilitation on a daily basis, with many of our therapists having more than 10 years of consistent experience in treating vestibular disorders. Our therapists work as a team to treat more challenging and complex patients, allowing for years of collaborative experience to help our patients achieve results.

What is Vestibular Rehabilitation?

Vestibular rehabilitation focuses on the evaluation and treatment of individuals with disorders resulting in symptoms of vertigo, dizziness and decreased balance.  Vestibular therapists help to improve balance and reduce problems related to dizziness by utilizing specialized exercises that help to retrain the inner ear and balance systems.  Individuals with vestibular disorders may also develop cervicogenic dizziness due to the activation of specific reflexes in the inner ear and neck; therefor, cervical screening is an essential component during examination.   Manual therapy techniques may be utilized for those individuals with cervical issues that may be contributing to symptoms of dizziness.

Balance Solutions physical therapists have many years of experience in treating vestibular disorders. Our therapists provide a comprehensive evaluation to determine all factors relating to your specific complaints of dizziness and imbalance, including; oculomotor exam, videonystagmography, positional testing, neuro screening, cervical screening, range of motion, strength, flexibility, and gait & balance assessments.  Following a thorough evaluation, a personalized plan of care with goals will be constructed specifically to meet your individual needs.

Symptoms of dizziness can result from many conditions such as; (vestibular) inner ear disorders, neck injuries or muscle tightness, neuropathy, central nervous system problems, metabolic issues, or psychological disorders. Our therapists are trained to screen for more serious conditions (such as neurological and cardiovascular disorders) as well as effectively evaluate and treat conditions which are appropriate for physical therapy intervention.

Our Vestibular physical therapy program can provide significant benefits for the following conditions:
